Lebanon Peace Initiative

For the past two years, fighting in the Middle East has killed large numbers of people and created immense suffering in the region.

Under the guidance of Dr. Jose Luis Alvarez and Drs. Omar and Susan Hamza (three international administrators for the Transcendental Meditation program worldwide), we are carrying out an initiative to train Lebanese citizens, mostly women, in the Transcendental Meditation technique. This outreach aims to dramatically increase inner peace, reduce violence and PTSD, and promote Peace in Lebanon and the region.

Three TM teachers are reaching out and are currently teaching 50-100 citizens each month. We have taught around 500 Lebanese in 2025.

Our goal is to teach 2000 Lebanese the TM program and then to have these same people practice their TM program at the same time in groups located as closely as possible to each other. If there are enough people regularly practicing TM near each other, we will teach the advanced techniques of TM called the TM-Sidhi program.

Coordinating the group practice of this advanced program will significantly reduce violence, terrorism and war as documented by over 60 demonstrations in large groups and over 28 scientific studies. This evidence-based result is called the Maharishi Effect after the founder of the TM program.

Many of the women suffer from war trauma and financial distress. They now enjoy the personal benefits of TM for mental health and reduction of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), over and above the benefits accruing to the nation and the region as a whole.

Here are the experiences of three of the many people who have recently learned TM in Lebanon.

R.A.H.

“I experienced several painful traumas that turned me into a depressed, negative-thinking, anxious, fearful, hesitant, overly sensitive, and irritable person. I had no desire to engage in activities. Since I learned Transcendental Meditation I am calmer, more active, optimistic, and understanding.”
— R.A.H.

“Life was very stressful, and I had trouble focusing on each task I performed. I felt overwhelmed, overloaded, and always tired. Now, after learning Transcendental Meditation, it is easier to go through the day. I feel less stress and calmer. I now feel in control of whatever is happening.”
— M.M.

“My life was hard, stressful and full of anxiety. I felt that I was living in the shade, in the dark, in some nightmare. But after I learned Transcendental Meditation, my life flipped 180 degrees. At first, after learning TM, I felt some light in my awareness. After the days and weeks and months of TM practice, this initially tiny light became my Heaven.”
