Palestine PTSD Recovery

With regular bombings and attacks in Palestine, stress, trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are frequent. In 2021, before the 2023-2024 warfare, an article in Middle East Current Psychiatry measured that 100% of the population of a Gaza refugee camp had experienced traumatic situations and 52% of that population had high levels of PTSD symptoms. Now, with frequent military attacks, the general population of Palestinians is experiencing high levels of PTSD.

There is an antidote to the effects of stress and the chronic debilitation of PTSD a systematic and scientific technique that provides inner peace —it is the Transcendental Meditation (TM) program.

The TM program is available to all Palestinians and is supported by scientific, evidence-based reductions in PTSD by allowing the mind and body to gain deep rest thereby bringing inner peace and stability.

This effortless and natural program will help to prevent and remedy the all-pervasive epidemic of trauma and toxic stress across the population. The TM technique has also been shown to improve health, cognitive capabilities, happiness, and performance in life.

Basma, National Director of the TM program

The National Director of the TM program in Palestine, Basma Abu-Sway, warmly invites all those suffering the stress of this current situation to learn the TM technique. If a Palestinian does not have funds for learning TM, Basma will work to ensure they receive a full scholarship for the TM program.

Palestinians practicing TM together

Here are a few of the beautiful results that some Palestinians have experienced soon after learning TM:

“For the first time since almost 6 months, I was able to sleep all night. Even my mom who is sick and in pain all the time seemed much quieter.” — Ameira (26 year old lady from Gaza accompanying her chronically ill mother)

I feel more centered and calm. TM helped me find some inner peace amid all the craziness around us. I make sure to do my TM program twice a day because I found that it’s giving me strength and even I feel I am more able to give some emotional support to my children in Gaza.” — Shadia (52 year-old lady from Gaza)

TM has helped me a lot during these difficult times. We are not good although all of us are trying hard to be good and normal… it’s so hard. But still doing my TM program helped me a lot to keep going and focused.”—Nawa (50-year old university teacher)

Since its establishment in 2016, we have been able, through your generous support, to teach TM to more than 880 individuals, 70 percent of whom are women. The current political instability has further increased our determination to support more people to learn TM—allowing them to overcome the stress and anxiety they face constantly. (The cost to teach TM to one Palestinian is $150.00 USD.)

To support the Palestinians, please give generously today and help Basma to heal her people.
